The road to the government house in Alagbaka is becoming tougher, with intense politicking going on here and there, making the incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu gasping for breath in his pursuit for second term, while suffering from the major gang up from the enemies within his All Progressives Congress (APC), who are parading themselves as the Unity Forum.
Without any ado, it is obvious that Akeredolu is not really having issues with the opposition, they seem to be lost in the race. The major antagonist waylaying the governor is the Unity Forum headed by a former Deputy Governor in the State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi.
The Unity Forum has been in existence for few years now to check mate Akeredolu and to wrestle power from his hand, with the line-up of not less down 10 eminent political gurus, which the group will choose from.
Meanwhile, here are the major reasons why Akeredolu may lose the APC ticket to the Unity Forum:
His crisis with the A
It has been observed that Akeredolu is currently not on the good side with some of the power brokers in the APC, particularly the leadership of the party in the South-West.
Akeredolu is said to be part of the people that want the removal of the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and unfortunately for Akeredolu, Oshiomhole is gradually winning the battle, which will make it difficult for him to trust Akeredolu with the party’s ticket.
Akeredolu has also fallen-out with the APC National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, who people regarded as the Jagaban. The major reason why it is alleged that Tinubu is supporting the Unity Forum is in order to deny Akeredolu the APC ticket for his second term run.
The Unity Forum’s formidable team
It is glaring that the Unity Forum is building a formidable team that would wrestle power from Akeredolu, especially with its assemblage of some political gladiators in the State.
The group being headed by Alhaji Ali Olanusi is surrounded by the likes of Prof Ajayi Boroffice, Olusola Oke, Bukola Adetula, Ife Oyedele, Olusegun Abraham and others.
All the group needs is to just come up with a consensus candidate and they will no doubt get the APC ticket ahead of Akeredolu.
Akeredolu’s abysmal performance
Another factor that would serve as a major setback for Akeredolu is his poor performance during his first tenure as the governor of Ondo State.
He has made life difficult for the people of the state by refusing to pay the leave bonus of the state workers. He also increased the school fees of state institutions, making it difficult for students to bear.
Akeredolu couldn’t bring about infrastructures needed for the well-being of his people.
Apart from the listed factors, Akeredolu is someone who lacks good human relation, he is just like the erstwhile governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who usually addresses and talks to people anyhow.
Akeredolu once dared the people of Ondo State, saying there is nothing they would do if he decides to make his son the Chief of Staff of his administration. He is also known for going around with utterances that doesn’t speak well of a governor that he is.
With the above listed points,it would be easy for a camel to pass through a needle’s eye than Akeredolu beating the Unity Forum group to the APC ticket in the state.
Feel free to drop your opinion, do you think Akeredolu can defeat the Unity Forum to get APC ticket?
