Following the announcement of 239 new cases of Coronavirus on the 9th of May by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases hit 4,151.
In a late night tweet yesterday, the NCDC reported that new cases were from 15 states, adding that it recorded 11 new death due to Coronavirus. The public health agency proceeded to give a breakdown of the newly confirmed cases according to states as follow: Lagos had 97 new cases, Bauchi- 44, Kano- 29, Katsina- 19, Borno- 17, FCT- 7, Kwara- 6, Oyo- 5, Kaduna- 3, Sokoto- 3, Adamawa- 2, Kebbi- 2, Plateau- 2, Ogun- 2 and Ekiti- 1.
Nigeria experienced a spike in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases after the Federal Government’s directive to ease the lockdown kick-started on 4th of May.
As at May 4th, the total number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Nigeria was 2,802. This figure has increased by a whopping 1,349 cases in just five days. Experts have opined that the exponential increase in the number of Coronavirus cases is as a result of increased community spread.
As it stands, Nigeria has 3,278 active cases, 745 discharged cases and 128 deaths have been recorded.
