It was reported on News’ outlets that a Private in the Nigerian Army, Uzonna Maduabuchi fired at least five shots at Lieutenant Babakaka Shehu Ngorgi, who was his superior, at 202 Battalion of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade in Bama, Borno State. It happened on Tuesday, while the victim was on a phone call with his wife.
According to sources in the Army, Maduabuchi, who’s a 16NA Regular Intake, had complained on multiple occasions about the non-payment of his allowances, and the denial of his right to pass.
Although it wasn’t obvious whether the deceased Lieutenant had any role with his ordeals, The Nation gathered that Maduabuchi was heard shouting: “I have achieved my goal” after shooting the deceased officer to death.
The aggrieved Soldier was reported to have carried out the shooting spree, not long after the troops came back from patrolling the axis to wade off Boko Haram Terrorists.
According to investigations by The Nation, the soldier targeted officer’s chest and shot several rounds to the suprise of colleagues who were present.
“Everyone was shocked because no one expected such a thing to happen at that moment.
“Other soldiers and officers felt so sad that they wanted to get the soldier killed in the guardroom, but the Commander said nobody should touch the soldier.
‘’May Almighty Allah protect our lives and keep us safe in this job, ” a young soldier, who allegedly witnessed the shooting incident said.
While confirming the shooting incident, the spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa disclosed that the soldier was depressed.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the deceased, Lieutenant Ngorgi got married, in December 2019, and has been on operation, away from home, while fighting in the northeast since then.
