Senate Asks Buhari To Sack NDDC Interim Management Committee

The resolutions of the Senate accompanied its consideration and adoption of the guidelines of its ad hoc Committee on the investigation of the alleged monetary recklessness in the NDDC.

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday advised President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei-led Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission over alleged economic recklessness.

The resolutions of the Senate observed its consideration and adoption of the guidelines of its advert hoc Committee on the investigation of the alleged economic recklessness in the NDDC.

Chairman of the advert hoc committee, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, introduced the report.

He said, “In conclusion, the committee cited that it is challenging to locate a correlation between Niger Delta neighborhood improvement and money invested in the zone. Continued money injection in the Niger Delta mission difficulty has no longer labored beneath the a range of IMCs.

“It can also be beneficial at this juncture for the authorities to intervene by way of stepping down the EIMC (Executive Interim Management Committee), thereby supporting them go away the stage for a true constituted board with unique mandate to tackle the pains of the Niger Delta people.”

The committee stated that the IMC have to be made to refund more budgetary expenditure of N4.923bn charge to workforce and contractors in breach of the procurement method and approvals.

Monies to be refunded through the IMC encompass price for foreign places tour to the United Kingdom in the sum of N85.7m, scholarships delivers – N105.5m, union individuals day out to Italy – N164.2m, Lassa Fever package – N1.96bn, public verbal exchange – N1.2bn and COVID-19 remedy -N1.49bn.
