COVID-19 Update: Cases hit 1 million Africa, WHO lists 10 most affected nations

Coronavirus cases in Africa have surpassed 1 million.

The Africa Centre of Disease Control (CDC) gave the update on Friday.

CDC established that the continent has recorded 22,066 deaths.

South Africa is the worst-affected country.

It is the fifth worst-hit in the world with greater than 1/2 a million instances and over 9,000 deaths.

John Nkengasong, head of the Africa CDC, proven that 10 nations account for eighty per cent of coronavirus cases.

They are South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda and Mauritius.

Each has performed extra than 200,000 tests.

“The direction of the pandemic in Africa has been lots much less than we predicted,” stated Matshidiso Moeti, World Health Organisation (WHO) Director for Africa.

In May, the United Nations organization warned the virus should reason 10 million infections on the continent inside six months.
